Is the UNIMBA International the same degree as the MBA is the U.S.?

Yes. Students received their MBA degree from the University of Northern Iowa. There is nothing printed on the degree or on the transcript to indicate that the classes were taken anywhere other than the UNI campus. That is because the program offered at all locations is the same. All graduating students can choose to come to Cedar Falls, Iowa and participate in the commencement service!

How much previous education do I need before I can start the UNIMBA program?

Students need to have earned a degree that is approximately equivalent to a 4-year U.S. undergraduate degree. This may include a program that required 5 years of high school (rather than just four) and then three years of college. Students in the program have degrees from many different institutions in China, the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Asia.

What information do I have to provide concerning my education?

You are required to have official transcripts mailed directly from all the institutions where you studied to UNI. These official transcripts must be received before you can be fully admitted to the MBA program. However, by providing a copy of your transcripts to Hopkins, these can be evaluated and used to determine whether you can start the program. You do not have to wait until UNI receives the official transcripts.

Are there certain times when I can choose to begin the program, or can I begin at any time?

The program has two in-takes but students can begin the program at any time. Starting at one of the defined intakes insures completion of all courses within 14 months.

Do you require work experience?

Yes. You need work experience prior to beginning an MBA program. You are at a competitive disadvantage in the classroom without it. Historically, the average years of work experience for students in the Hong Kong has been 7-1/2 with a range from 3 to 25 years of experience.

Who teaches the classes?

The majority of classes are taught by UNI faculty members. There professors travel to teach the face-to-face component of the courses. Occasionally, local faculty with significant work experience and outstanding academic credentials may teach in the program.

Where are international classes offered?

Classes are located in Tsimshatsui East, South Seas Centre, 75 Mody Road, Hong Kong Kong and at Rm 905 Fudan Science & Tech Park, #2539 Song Swa Jiang Road, HongKou District, Shanghai PRC.

When are the classes offered?

Courses are offered primarily on weekends, with some mid-week evening meetings, depending on the program. Refer to the schedules shown on the specific location for details.

How many classes do I have to take?

The program consists of 10 courses plus the business capstone experience.

What if I have to miss a class?

Attendance policies are set by each faculty member. Faculty members include their policies in their syllabi. If you review the schedule, and find that you must miss a significant portion of the course, then you need to notify the faculty member well in advance and ask if this will be a problem. If it is, then you would discuss with the MBA Program Director the possibility of deferring the course. This deferment may or may not impact when you complete the program. There is a charge associated with a deferment.

We try to provide to you the course schedule at least three to four months in advance. We hope that this allows each student to plan work related travel around their courses. Again, if this is not possible, then deferment is an option.

How long does it take to complete the program?

All of the courses can be completed in approximately 14 months. The business capstone experience, a team based project, is started following all of the courses. The teams finish the project over approximately a three-month period.

How much will it cost me to enroll? Are books included?

The cost of the program can be found at the bottom of the Admissions page (link on admissions.) Books are not included in these costs. The costs of books for each course ranges from $25 U.S. (for a course packet of readings) to approximately $100 U.S. for a finance textbook. Occasionally both a course packet and a book must be purchased. Students can purchase books from a variety of sources, including Hopkins. Prices for books are set by the publishers and/or the book source. Neither UNI nor Hopkins receives money from textbook sales. The cost of a course packet includes the copyright permissions purchased that allow us to reproduce the materials for you.
